Split, lifted, ridged or traumatised nails where a smoother appearance would help.
Nail reconstruction for damaged or missing toenails.
A cosmetic and protective nail treatment for people who feel self-conscious about a damaged, split, thickened or partially missing toenail. We assess the nail first, then rebuild a natural-looking nail where it is clinically appropriate.
Who it helps
For nails that need more than a tidy-up.
Nail reconstruction can improve the appearance of a nail after trauma, fungal damage, surgery, thickening or partial nail loss. It is not just a beauty treatment. We check the nail and surrounding skin first so we can advise whether reconstruction is suitable, or whether fungal nail treatment, nail surgery or routine podiatry is the safer route.
For nails that have broken away or have not grown back evenly after injury or surgery.
Where careful reduction and reconstruction may make the nail look and feel better.
If fungal infection is suspected, we will advise on treatment before or alongside reconstruction.
What happens
Clear assessment first, then careful reconstruction.
We keep this practical. Your podiatrist checks the nail, talks through what you want the nail to look like, prepares the area safely, and only reconstructs when the nail and skin are suitable.
Assess
We check the nail plate, skin, history, footwear and whether fungal testing or treatment is needed.
Prepare
The nail is reduced and shaped where appropriate, with hard skin or loose nail managed carefully.
Rebuild
A flexible reconstruction material is shaped to look natural and protect the nail while it grows.
Good to know before you book.
Nail reconstruction is usually temporary and may need maintenance depending on nail growth, footwear, activity and the condition underneath.
- Bring open-toed footwear if possible.
- Do not apply nail varnish before your appointment.
- Tell us if you are diabetic or immunosuppressed.
- If the nail is painful, infected or weeping, call first.
Not sure if this is the right route?
If the nail is fungal, ingrown, painful or infected, another podiatry route may be better. We would rather guide you correctly than have you book the wrong thing.
Insurance we work with.
If you plan to use private medical insurance, check your policy details before booking. We currently work with these providers where the treatment is eligible.
