Get the right scan—not just any scan.
If an MRI could change your diagnosis or treatment plan, a Hub clinician can assess you, select the appropriate area to image and refer you to UniRad, our recommended private MRI provider in Glasgow.
Imaging is useful when it answers a clinical question.
MRI can show detailed soft-tissue, joint, bone and spinal structures. But pain does not always need a scan, and a scan finding does not always explain the pain. We recommend referral only when the result is likely to influence what happens next.
Recovery is not following the expected course.
Symptoms remain significant despite an appropriate period of treatment, rehabilitation or activity modification.
The assessment leaves a specific question unanswered.
Imaging may help distinguish between possible causes or identify the extent of an injury.
The result could alter treatment or onward referral.
An MRI may be relevant before specialist review, an intervention or a change in your rehabilitation plan.
One joined-up route from assessment to the next decision.
You remain in control throughout. We will explain why MRI is—or is not—likely to help before any referral is made.
Book an assessment.
Choose a physiotherapy or relevant clinic assessment at The Hub so we can understand the problem properly.
Agree the clinical question.
If MRI is appropriate, your clinician identifies the correct body region and the question the scan should answer.
We send the referral.
With your consent, your Hub clinician sends the relevant history, clinical justification and referral details to UniRad.
Use the report well.
The radiology report can be considered with your symptoms and examination to decide the most useful next step.
Why we refer to UniRad.
UniRad is a private MRI service based in Glasgow. Its clinician referral route allows us to provide the clinical history, the area to be scanned and the reason imaging is being requested—so the request is based on your assessment rather than guesswork.
Many patients can also contact UniRad directly about self-referral. If you are unsure which scan you need, or whether MRI is the right first step, a Hub assessment can help you avoid arranging the wrong test.
What to know before you arrange a scan.
Suitability, current prices, availability, preparation and reporting times should always be confirmed directly with UniRad.
Do I need an MRI for pain or an injury?
Not always. Many problems can be assessed and treated without MRI. We recommend it when the result is likely to clarify a specific diagnosis or change your treatment, rehabilitation or onward-referral decision.
Can The Hub refer me for a private MRI?
Yes, when the clinician assessing you judges MRI to be clinically appropriate. With your consent, the referral can include the relevant history, examination findings, clinical question and body region to be scanned.
Can I contact UniRad without a Hub referral?
UniRad says many patients can self-refer. Contact UniRad directly to check whether self-referral is suitable for the scan you are considering. If you are unsure what you need, book a Hub assessment first.
Who performs and reports the MRI?
The scan is arranged and delivered by UniRad, not by The Hub. UniRad states that images are reviewed by UK-registered consultant radiologists. Ask UniRad about the reporting and results process for your appointment.
What if I have an implant, could be pregnant or feel claustrophobic?
Tell both your Hub clinician and UniRad before the scan. UniRad is responsible for MRI safety screening and will advise whether the scan can proceed and whether any extra preparation is needed.
How quickly will I get an appointment and report?
Availability and reporting times can change. Contact UniRad for its current appointment options and the expected reporting time for your scan.
Unsure whether MRI is the right next step?
Book a Hub assessment. We will assess the problem, explain your options and refer to UniRad if MRI is likely to add something useful to your care.
